Learn to Scan MSK With Confidence

Take your ultrasound skills beyond the basics with a dedicated 3-day hands-on MSK ultrasound workshop.

This course is designed for clinicians who want to develop a systematic approach to musculoskeletal ultrasound and gain significantly more practical scanning experience than can be achieved in a single introductory day.

The emphasis is on hands-on scanning: live demonstrations, supervised image acquisition, systematic examination of anatomical regions, dynamic assessment and direct instructor feedback.

You won’t simply watch someone scan. You will scan yourself, repeatedly, with an instructor beside you correcting your technique and helping you understand what you are seeing.

The course follows established approaches to systematic MSK ultrasound examination, including the major regions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle. (ESSR)

Before the Workshop — Online Preparation

Before attending the practical sessions, participants receive online preparatory material covering the essential foundations required for the hands-on course.

Online preparation includes:

  • MSK ultrasound principles
  • Ultrasound terminology
  • Probe selection and handling
  • Basic knobology and image optimization
  • Ultrasound artifacts
  • Basic MSK sonoanatomy
  • Introduction to systematic MSK scanning

Participants must complete the required material and online quiz before attending the practical workshop.

This allows the three days to focus primarily on practical scanning rather than lengthy introductory lectures.

What You’ll Actually Do

Across three full days you will:

  • Perform hands-on scanning on real patients/models
  • Learn systematic regional scanning protocols
  • Identify normal MSK sonoanatomy
  • Practice probe positioning and orientation
  • Optimize ultrasound images
  • Perform dynamic examinations
  • Learn to recognize common abnormalities
  • Compare normal and abnormal appearances
  • Practice Doppler where clinically appropriate
  • Receive individual correction of your scanning technique
  • Interpret the images you acquire
  • Discuss clinical applications and limitations

Small Practical Groups

Approximately 4–5 participants per instructor to maximize individual scanning time and feedback.

The aim is to give every participant meaningful time with the probe rather than spending the day sitting through demonstrations.

Skills Developed Throughout the 3 Days

Image Optimization

Learn to optimize your images using:

  • Depth
  • Gain
  • Focus
  • Frequency
  • Probe selection
  • Doppler settings
